Don’t Look Back is a picture book for children. The true story teaches young readers about people risking everything to escape to a better life.

Don’t Look Back tells the story of little Anthony and his parents Peggy and Ladislav. When they leave their house with just a small bag and Anthony's teddy bear it looks as though they are going out for a couple of hours. Yet they are leaving forever.

Their daring journey takes them through a forest, where they have to overcome challenges and face their fears. Will they all make it out safely?

This is my family's true story of escaping Communist Czechoslovakia in 1949 (my dad and his parents). Although I kept the time and place generic, the 'real story' is published at the end of the book with family photographs - you can also read it here.

Don’t Look Back was published by the Book Guild on 28th October 2024. It’s available to buy from their own bookstore at the link below, or from all good bookshops. I’m donating 50p from every copy sold to the Refugee Council.
